Over three weekends between 25 April and 10 May 2014, we developed and ran a music and spoken word festival in Tiong Bahru, Singapore’s first public housing estate. Founded in London in 2011, Musicity is a digital music platform that intersects memory, place and experience via a location-based Internet streaming app that allows people to listen to tracks written for specific locations. A previous iteration of Musicity Singapore was organized by the British Council in 2012.
Our festival pushed the boundaries of the Musicity concept to create three firsts in any Musicity location in the world:
° The inclusion of spoken word poetry
° Festival location: Tiong Bahru Estate, a residential area
° Community events: Two free-admission community events featuring performers from in and around the Tiong Bahru area. Arts and culture by the community, for the community.
